How to wash men's hair: shampoo and conditioner by hair type

Washing right does more for your hair than any styling product. Here's how often, and what to use.

Healthy hair styles itself. Most of that comes down to two habits: not over-washing, and matching your shampoo and conditioner to your hair. Neither is complicated.

How often should men wash their hair?

For most men, 2–3 times a week is plenty. Washing every day with a harsh shampoo strips the natural oils that keep hair soft and manageable, so it dries out and the cut loses shape. On off-days, rinse with water or use conditioner only.

The basic routine

Shampoo focuses on the scalp — that's where oil and product build up. Conditioner focuses on the lengths and ends, which need moisture, not cleansing. Rinse well; leftover product weighs hair down.

Choosing a shampoo by hair type

Fine or weak-feeling hair

A biotin shampoo and conditioner, like Purezero's Biotin pair, is protein-enriched and leaves fine hair feeling stronger and fuller. (It supports the feel and body of your hair — it isn't a treatment for hair loss.)

Dry, rough or frizzy hair

Argan oil is your friend. Purezero's Moroccan Argan Oil shampoo and conditioner add softness and shine to hair that feels dry, and the argan leave-in spray helps hair that feels damaged stay smooth between washes.

Oily scalp or heavy product build-up

A clarifying rosemary mint shampoo cuts through build-up and leaves the scalp feeling fresh and clean — good after a week of pomade. Follow with its conditioner so the lengths don't dry out.

Curly or coily hair

Curls need gentle cleansing and moisture. A flaxseed oil and shea butter cleansing shampoo washes without stripping, and a coconut milk leave-in spray helps detangle, soften and control frizz. See the next section for styling curls.

Don't skip conditioner

Plenty of men wash and go. Even a quick rinse-out conditioner on the ends makes hair easier to style and less prone to frizz — especially in Miami humidity.
